History of the Law Firm

On January 1, 2009, Crowley Fleck PLLP became the name of the firm formed by the combination of Crowley, Haughey, Hanson, Toole & Dietrich P.L.L.P. and Fleck, Mather & Strutz, Ltd. The mutual objective of the combination was to create a broader regional firm and to expand its presence within Montana, North Dakota, Wyoming, and South Dakota. Crowley Fleck PLLP is a multi-service firm that handles a wide variety of legal matters for clients. The firm has over 130 lawyers practicing in the areas of commercial litigation, insurance defense litigation, natural resources, mining and energy law, healthcare, commercial transactions, banking and finance, creditors rights, real estate transactions and development, tax and estate planning, intellectual property matters, estate administration, employment law, governmental relations, and lobbying. Currently, Crowley Fleck PLLP has offices in Billings, Bozeman, Helena, Kalispell and Missoula, Montana; in Bismarck and Williston, North Dakota; and in Casper and Sheridan, Wyoming. The firm has lawyers licensed not only in Montana, North Dakota, and Wyoming, but also in several surrounding states, including South Dakota, Idaho, Minnesota, Nebraska, and Iowa.

Prior to the combination, the firm of Crowley, Haughey, Hanson, Toole & Dietrich P.L.L.P. (now Crowley Fleck PLLP) was one of the oldest and largest law firms in Montana. It had its origin in 1895 when Mr. W. M. Johnston established his law practice in Billings. Prior to the combination with the Fleck firm, Crowley established and maintained offices in Billings (since 1895), Helena (since 1991), Kalispell (since 1997), Bozeman (since 2000) and Missoula, Montana (since 2003), and in Williston, North Dakota (since 1996). The firm of Fleck, Mather & Strutz, Ltd., was engaged in the practice of law in Bismarck, the capital city of North Dakota. The Fleck firm was founded in 1945 by Alvin C. Strutz, later a Chief Justice of the North Dakota Supreme Court, and Clifford Jansonius, who subsequently served as a North Dakota District Judge. Together, the combined firm brings over a century of legal expertise and a tradition of uncompromising service to its clients.
